Kent Boese Wins The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club Endorsement for Ward One D.C. Council Race. April 24th, 2018

April 24th, 2018

Last night, I was honored and humbled by the decision of the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club to endorse my candidacy for the D.C. Council Ward 1 seat on the first ballot. As a councilmember, I will always stand up and speak out to defend the rights of LGBTQ residents, not only in Ward 1, but across the District. The recent gay bashing and hate crime incident that occurred on U Street, where two gay men were violently beaten, proves that while we have made significant progress on LGBTQ rights, we must do more to protect our LGBTQ residents.

We need an advocate on the D.C. Council that can truly represent our community’s interests. As the only openly gay Democratic candidate seeking the Ward 1 D.C. Council seat, I am best prepared to address our community’s struggles because I have lived through many of these struggles such as anti-LGBTQ harassment and homophobia. I look forward to working with our community, especially members of the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club, to address our resident’s concerns as a member of the D.C. Council.
